Good essay, Jason. I cringe when I think how hateful my family of origin was when I was growing up in the 50’s and 60’. My uncles especially would make racial slurs and the rest of the family would laugh. Luckily I learned to call them out on their bigotry during my college years in the 70’s. I marched for the end of racisim, side by side with my black classmates. I realized that my old white Catholic uncles were the ones we should fear! It was a different generation…but they knew exactly what they were doing! They thought it was funny…It was ugly!
